I’ve been a manager for one of the large tax franchises. I’ve owned a cleaning franchise, bought & sold on Ebay, Internet marketing (affiliate)..on & on.
The one thread that runs through all of my past businesses & careers is financing, or more specifically, the lack there of.
Take insurance for example. Two words..Prozac & bankruptcy. Why? Because the way they teach new agents just isn’t effective. Maybe it was in the 50’s & 60’s, but not today. I finally realized that you need to run your career like you would a business. Guess what? Just like a business needs access to credit & finances, you need the same for your career.
You don’t want to waste your time cold calling people. You don’t want to have to keep harassing any clients you already have. You need a system to stay in contact (mailings etc), but that means you need capital. Without access to credit/financing to properly fund your marketing and promotion long term, you can’t keep & acquire new clients. Without clients, you don’t have a business.
That’s just the business side of things. You’re going to find it hard to function in life without access & PROPER DISCIPLINED use of credit. Mortgage & car payments are higher because you could only (barely) get a higher interest rate.
It’s not a case of IF financial hardships will arise..it’s WHEN they do & how you handle them is the real question. Having the knowledge to manage that crisis could mean the difference between staying married and becoming divorced. The difference between maintaining your health or becoming a victim of a stress related health issue like stroke or heart attack.
So, the choice is yours. You can be the victim..or the victor.
